Four-iron (sulfide) ferredoxin from Bacillus polymyxa.
Ferredoxin from Bacillus polymyxa contains (per mole) four non-heme iron residues, four acid-labile sulfide residues, and four cysteine residues. Its molecular weight is approximately 8,800, and it has an oxidation-reduction potential (E(m)) of -390 mv. It is active as an electron carrier in several ferredoxin-linked enzyme systems.
متن کاملAmmonia Assimilation in Bacillus polymyxa
Pathways of ammonia assimilation into glutamic acid and alanine in Bacillus polymyxa were investigated by "N NMR spectroscopy in combination with measurements of the specific activities of glutamate dehydrogenase, glutamine synthetase, glutamate synthase, alanine dehydrogenase, and glutamic-alanine transaminase. Ammonia was found to be assimilated into glutamic acid predominantly by NADPH-depen...
متن کاملThe endospore of Bacillus polymyxa.
The endospore of Bacillus polymyxa was originally described by Meyer (1897) in a study of a bacillus which he designated Astasia asterospora. Meyer's drawings of the spore, showing ridges and the star shaped aspect, were reproduced by Knaysi (1951) over the name Bacillus asterosporus. It has not been generally recognized that this name is synonymous with B. polymyxa (Smith, et al., 1952). So th...
متن کاملPurification and Characterization of Alkaline Xylanases from Bacillus polymyxa.
By applying different classical and fast protein liquid chromatographic techniques, three xylanases (beta-1,4-d-xylan xylanhydrolase) were purified to homogeneity from the extracellular enzymatic complex of Bacillus polymyxa. The three enzymes (X(34)C, X(34)E, and X(22)) were small proteins of 34, 34, and 22 kDa and basic pIs 9.3, >9.3, and 9.0, respectively. X(34)C and X(34)E are closely relat...
متن کاملPectic Acid Lyases of Bacillus polymyxa 1
Four enzymes were separated from an extracellular preparation of Bacillus polymyxa by carboxymethylcellulose column chromatography. The pH optima were 8.3 to 8.5, 8.7 to 8.9, 9.2 to 9.4, and 9.5 to 9.6. All of the enzymes required calcium ion for maximum activity, whereas strontium ion was only partially effective in stimulating activity. Cobalt was the only other cation tested which was effect...
